a note on finding new ways home.

I like finding new ways home…
Taking a bike ride along the lake front trail,
Or in the green lane of the Dearborn rail.
Decorating my new place until it feels like me.
Saying yes to trips with friends close to the sea.
I like finding new ways home…
Remembering a quote that my father always said,
Understanding it now after years of him putting it in my head.
Laughing with old friends, face to face,
Lingering a little longer in their warm embrace.
I like finding new ways home…
Feeling the summer breeze along the bay,
Cooking a new meal and giving a loved one a take away.
Sleeping in the rain for hours on end,
Waking up refreshed to reimagine life again.
I like finding new ways home…
Hearing childlike laughter while playing a game,
The tea-in-hand thoughts of overcoming all that came.
Jumping into a creative flow after lack of inspiration,
Feeling in community while experiencing a different nation.
I like finding new ways home…
Sending off friends for their next life adventure,
Knowing when our paths meet again, the promise of home is sure.
Driving new routes to learn more of the windy city,
Bantering with someone that gets me, and getting more witty
I like finding new ways home...
For many reasons leaving home is usually a rush,
But I've learned that the return feels equally exciting -- but soft, slow, and plush.
I’m realizing that home is a mosaic of all the things that make me feel and give love,
And this earthly quest for it is a small likening to the home I believe is waiting above.
God, please help me find my way home…
